Our Approach

Evidence-based delivery grounded in adult learning principles, applied consistently to every workshop and qualification we run.

McMillan has been delivering training to Australian workplaces since 1989. Behind every workshop and qualification sits the same delivery discipline — a clear cycle from planning through to evaluation, and a consistent set of quality controls that keep delivery reliable and improvement-focused.

This page walks through how we work, what you can expect from us on any engagement, and how we build capability that lasts beyond the training room.

Aligned to the APS Craft Capability Framework and APS Workforce Strategy 2025.

Our delivery cycle

The same four stages sit under every engagement — non-accredited short courses and nationally recognised qualifications alike.

1. Initiate

We confirm outcomes, audience, delivery mode, schedule, and success measures — including how you want to evaluate the engagement. You get a Delivery Plan covering scope, responsibilities, risks, and dependencies before work begins.

2. Design and tailor

Where contextualisation is needed, we shape content, scenarios, and activities to your workplace. You get finalised participant materials, facilitator guides, and (for accredited work) assessment materials before delivery.

3. Deliver

We deliver online or face-to-face at your location, as agreed. Sessions are interactive, practical, and designed for the roles your team actually works in. For accredited work, we conduct assessment and record outcomes.

4. Evaluate and close

We capture participant and stakeholder feedback and agreed measures of impact. You get an evaluation summary you can share with your executive, and improvement actions are documented for future engagements.

Quality controls

The controls we apply to every engagement to keep delivery consistent, on schedule, and improving.

Our delivery cycle is supported by a set of standard controls. Nothing exotic — the same disciplines applied consistently, engagement after engagement.

Governance and communication: One accountable contact per engagement. Clear roles. Agreed cadence for updates. Early escalation if schedule or quality is at risk.

Design discipline: Apply adult learning principles to every session. Workplace-based activities and realistic scenarios. Tailoring and co-design with you where it adds value to the outcome.

Evaluation: Success measures set at initiation. Fit-for-purpose evaluation applied so you can assess impact. Outcomes reported in the format you need and findings translated into improvements.

Quality assurance: Standard templates. Pre-delivery checks of materials. Capture post-delivery improvement actions and apply them to future work.

Recordkeeping: Delivery records maintained. All agreed outputs provided at close-out.

Working with your team

What we need from you to deliver well — kept simple, agreed up front.

Every engagement is a partnership. To deliver well, we agree a small set of practical inputs from your team at the start. Nothing burdensome — just enough to make sure delivery lands.

    • A single point of contact — Someone on your side who can coordinate scheduling, approvals, and participant communications. Keeps decisions moving.
    • Confirmed logistics — Participant numbers, audience profile, and delivery constraints locked in ahead of agreed dates. For face-to-face, a suitable training room with standard AV. For virtual, access to your team’s collaboration platform.
    • Co-design inputs — Where we’re tailoring content, meeting time with key stakeholders and access to relevant policies, frameworks, and role-specific examples.
    • Evaluation access — Access to any evaluation processes, reporting templates, or capability frameworks your organisation uses — so our reporting slots into what you already do.
