Owner, Director
Ben owns McMillan, runs it day-to-day, and is the person accountable for what the business delivers. If something goes wrong with a program, it lands on him. If it goes well, it’s because the team around him made it happen.
He’s worked in the business since 2001, became Director in 2007, and took on full ownership in 2009. His role now is to hold the standards, keep the compliance clean, and make sure McMillan only takes on work it can do well.
The way Ben works is collaborative. He leans on McMillan’s trainers, assessors, and clients — they know their fields better than he does. His job is to bring structure, listen properly, and make sure decisions are defensible. He doesn’t pretend to know everything; he knows how to build a team of people who do.

McMillan Staff Development has trained the Australian Public Service and Australian businesses since 1989, when Heather McMillan began delivering business and administration programs to Commonwealth agencies from Canberra.
In 1999, McMillan became an accredited training provider under the Australian Qualifications Framework, delivering nationally recognised business qualifications to major corporate clients across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth — issuing hundreds of qualifications each year.
With the introduction of the Australian Quality Training Framework in 2001, McMillan transitioned to formal registration as a Registered Training Organisation. Ben McMillan became Director in 2007 and took on full ownership in 2009, re-registering the business under its current entity. McMillan has held continuous ASQA registration through every renewal cycle since.
Today McMillan delivers eight nationally recognised qualifications across leadership and management, human resources, project management, and government administration — plus workplace-focused short courses and career support services. Delivery is workgroup-first: closed cohorts contextualised to a client’s workplace, delivered face-to-face across the ACT and live online nationally.
